Tuscan Villa : Il Casato

After we saw gorgeous photos from our friends Kara and Ryan’s wedding in Tuscany, we knew we wanted to abandon our original plan to get married in Palm Springs and have a Tuscan wedding.

I had always dreamed of going to Italy but had never been, and the last time Scott was in Italy when was he was a child. So, we didn’t have any relationships in Italy to help us and were just throwing caution to the wind and planning everything from our laptop in Los Angeles.

Then, the universe blessed us by bringing the amazing Monica Balli into our lives. Monica is a Florence based wedding and special events planner and she’s at the top of her field. We were able to create the wedding of our dreams and Monica executed it for us with her team of incredible artisans and vendors.

We didn’t have the benefit of traveling to Italy before our wedding and so the challenge was how we would find the perfect venue for our ceremony and reception. We decided since we were having such a small group join us in Italy that we also wanted to be able to stay at the property where we were getting married. We looked at hundreds of beautiful villas online and finally settled on Il Casato in the small Tuscan town of Monticchiello. This was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding.

When we arrived at the villa days before our wedding, I cried tears of joy thinking how happy I was to be able to marry Scott in this dream-like setting. It is a stunning property with beautiful grounds.

This charming rustic country house built in the 18th century and owned by the Gonzi family was the perfect backdrop for one of the happiest days of our life. The Gonzi family is one with the Tuscan land and generously shares the fruits and vegetables from their garden, their homemade olive oil and wine from their vineyard with their guests. Every morning we hiked past their hay bales on their 50-acre property and picked fresh blackberries amidst the stunning backdrop of the Tuscan Hills.

The main house has six bedrooms and six bathrooms, living rooms upstairs and downstairs, a nice sized kitchen, a magical sprawling garden complete and an infinity swimming pool in the backyard. There is also an annex to comfortably sleep another two guests.

The villa can also provided private chefs to cook meals for you and your guests. Maid service is included with the villa and the Gonzi family is available to help make your stay feel like home.

Our wedding ceremony took place in the gorgeous garden just before Sunset and our cocktail hour was by the infinity pool. We had our wedding dinner and reception in the external hall with a long communal table. The cobblestone area next to the outdoor hall has a raised platform, which was the perfect spot for our Italian band to play and next to it was space for a dance floor.

Il Casato is in a prime location, close by to Siena, Montepulciano and Pienza where you can do wonderful sightseeing, wine tasting and enjoy culinary feasts. There are many top rated thermal baths and spas nearby which we didn’t get to try out during our wedding week, but that we will definitely visit on our next trip to Tuscany.

We can’t wait to take our children back to Il Casato one day to stand in the place where their Mama and Papa were married. This property holds a very special place in our hearts. If you’re planning a trip to Tuscany, Il Casato is the perfect place to stay.
